Communications and Public Affairs Associate

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Communications and Public Affairs Associate to join our fast-paced communications department. In this role, you will play a key part in developing and executing strategic communication plans that enhance the development of our projects as well as protect our corporate reputation. You will report directly to the Director of Communications and be based in Houston, Texas.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and draft a variety of communication materials, including factsheets, website content, social media posts, talking points, presentations, and among other communications.
  • Assist with managing the company website using WordPress, including content creation, editing, and uploading.
  • Manage and maintain our digital media presence, including scheduling social media content.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and news related to electric transmission and grid infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with internal and project teams across the organization to gather information and develop clear and concise communication materials.
  • Create compelling public affairs presentations using PowerPoint for regulatory meetings at state and local levels.

Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of experience in strategic corporate communications, energy or infrastructure communications, or a related field.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
  • Strong understanding of digital communication channels and best practices, including experience with WordPress.
  • A willingness to learn about complex technical subjects, such as the electric grid and transmission.
  • High proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • A proactive and results-oriented approach with a strong work ethic.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a passion for learning new things.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, wonky environment and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Empathy and tenacity for seeing projects through from conception to completion.
