With 25 years of energy industry experience, Al Vickers leads Grid United’s development, land acquisition, and permitting teams.
Al was previously CEO of bp Wind Energy, where he led a large utility scale renewables business. Al recently served on the board of the American Clean Power Association. During his decades at bp, Al held a wide range of executive and board positions in energy businesses around the world and led teams across five continents.
Al has been active in the Houston community for many years as a board member of the Asia Society, an advisory board member at Greentown Labs and the executive sponsor of the Texas MS150 charity bike ride. Al’s contributions to the community were recognized when he and his wife were jointly named Houston’s “International Citizen of the Year” by the mayor of Houston in 2021.
Al has a passion for people and the development of diverse talent and was named Executive of the Year by the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers in 2022 in recognition of his efforts in developing diverse talent across the energy industry.
Al holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Manchester University, is a professional engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers. Al lives in Houston with his wife Starlee, and their three sons, Jack, Cade and Ethan. He enjoys running, the outdoors and traveling.
